A Chicago Lion

How cool is this? I'm making it my new mission to find out how this artist created the illustration effect in Photoshop.

Cute Little Outfit

A little early for spring-wear, but I thought I'd post this in the hopes that someone somewhere is getting ready for a fabulous trip to the shore... This girl's all set for a day on the boardwalk.

Chicago World's Columbian Exposition, 1893

Chicago World's Columbian Exposition, 1893, Reflecting Pool.

Court of Honor (1893)

Another shot of the Court of Honor, including gondola rides (1893)

Even more interesting, the below photos were taken at the Trans-Mississippi Expo in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1898. Doesn't the architectural planning look similar?

Lighting Makes a Room

I suppose the cool skylights don't hurt, either.

Pictured above, Chicago's Museum of Contemporary Art's fall fundraiser on Oct. 30. The event garnered 550 people and raised $2.8 at its art auction, making it the most profitable fundraiser in the museum's history.

The Stack: Vol. 3

  1. There's a new-to-me blog out there (Mali Mo); I can't understand Scandinavian, but I'm loving the pictures!
  2. My hometown makes national news.
  3. While Jessica Baker makes lovely leaf artwork.
  4. A spicy holiday hairdo? Do I dare?

28 Millimeters, Women are Heroes Project, by JR

Artist JR wants to underline women's "pivotal role and to highlight their dignity by shooting them in their daily lives and posting them on the walls of their country."

"The goal is to reach the limits of art in a closed social and cultural environment and watch the reaction of the local population."

Amazing!

The Gift of Giving

What to get for the person who has everything?

American Red Cross has assembled a Holiday Giving Catalog for the holidays that are sure to warm your heart. You can choose from a variety of price points and receipients. For instance, you can purchase $25 music gift cards for wounded soldiers, emergency water containers for flood victims, blankets, and vaccines for children.
And, of course...
TOMS donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of adorable little slippers you buy. These guilded herringbone women's classics are my current fave. My navy TOMS are perhaps the most comfortable things I have ever put on my feet. Seriously! It's surprising.
